WINCANTON NEWS: LOCAL MP SARAH DYKE AMONG THOSE IN ATTENDANCE AT OPENING MEETING OF THE SEASON
Wincanton staged its opening fixture of the 2024/25 Jump season on Thursday 17th October and among those enjoying a fabulous autumn day out at the Somerset venue was Sarah Dyke.
Dyke, a Liberal Democrat, was elected as an MP in a by-election last year in the seat of Somerton and Frome. Earlier this year she won the newly created seat of Glastonbury and Somerton with the racecourse falling within the boundaries of her constituency.
Blaithin Murphy, General Manager at Wincanton Racecourse, said: “We are obviously delighted that our local Member of Parliament came to pay us a visit.
“Here at Wincanton, we see ourselves as very much part of the local community in all sorts of ways and it was very informative and satisfying to see that Sarah also plays a very high value on the concept of community.
“We look forward to welcoming Sarah back in the future and working closely alongside her whenever we can.”
Sarah Dyke, MP said: “I was delighted to attend the season opener event last week. Wincanton Racecourse is such a fantastic facility, at the heart of the community and economy of South Somerset, and rightly deserves its nomination for a national award next month. It was a brilliant and informative visit and I was delighted to have had the opportunity to speak to several owners and jockeys. It was a real reminder of just how lucky we are to have such high calibre owners, horses, staff and facilities in the Glastonbury and Somerton constituency.
