Festive flavour at Wincanton Racecourse

Press Release 4th December 2017 Wincanton

There’s a festive flavour to Wincanton’s race meeting this Thursday with mulled wine and roasted chestnuts adding to seasonal celebrations.

Seven races are on the card for racegoers to savour, which begin at 12.30pm and there are sure to be plenty of potentially smart young horses in the line up.

The Jockey Club “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle begins the day with several leading trainers making entries including Nicky Henderson, Philip Hobbs and Harry Fry. The Jockey Club Catering Mares’ Maiden Hurdle follows this, which is a perfect opportunity for mares to progress their education over hurdles.

Then it’s on to the Weatherbys General Stud Book Online Silver Buck Handicap Chase with course and distance winner Gentleman Jon among Colin Tizzard’s two representatives. The two-mile Weatherbys Racing Bank Handicap Hurdle  is sure to be a competitive affair while the long distance Crestmoor Construction Handicap Chase will demand plenty of stamina from the horses.

Amateur riders get their moment in the spotlight in the Jockey Club Catering Amateur Riders' Handicap Chase and concluding the card is the  Watch Racing UK On BT TV "Junior" Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race with plenty of potentially smart prospects likely to be in action including the Anthony Honeyball-trained Acey Milan.

Under 18s race free at Wincanton and there’s a free bus service from Templecombe Train Station to the racecourse meeting trains arriving from London at 10.25 and Exeter 10.43.
