The Jockey Club is pleased to announce that a new three mile hurdle start has been added to Wincanton Racecourse after identifying a gap in the race programme this summer.
Set to begin in March 2021, it is hoped that the first long-distance hurdle to be staged at the course in recent years will add a new dynamic to the Wincanton race programme, offering a new competitive opportunity to horsemen and racing fans. Wincanton will initially conduct one race at this new distance before identifying further opportunities.
Speaking about the new race start, Wincanton Racecourse Clerk of the Course, Daniel Cooper said:
"I'm excited to add this new start to Wincanton's long standing race programme, and I hope it's well supported so we can look at adding other races at this distance as and when the opportunity arises.
"We get a huge amount of support from owners and trainers already, but new additions like this keep our programme interesting and competitive for seasons to come which is very important." He added.
The first hurdle at this new distance will be a Class 4 Handicap Hurdle, 4+ rated 0-110 and closes for Entries on 5th March 2021. The official race distance is 3miles, 150yds, with a safety factor of 18.
