FUEL HUB TO PROVIDE NUTRITIONAL PRIZES FOR JOCKEYS AT NEWMARKET RACECOURSES

Article 15th April 2024 Newmarket

Newmarket Racecourses are working alongside Athlete Approved Premium Meal Prep Company Fuel Hub, to trial a new type of prize for jockeys in selected races across the upcoming season, kicking off tomorrow, Tuesday 16th April, with the Craven Meeting.

Fuel Hub provides ready to eat meals in ecofriendly packaging for elite teams and athletes, which are high in protein and macro-controlled. Vouchers for 6 meals will be gifted to winning jockeys of selected races across the Craven Meeting, marking a move away from traditional prizes such as champagne. Fuel Hub are also offering a recurring discount for all jockeys to support their health and wellbeing.

Newmarket Racecourses Head of Racing, Andrew Morris, commented, “It is great to be able to start the season trialling an exciting new initiative for jockeys coming to Newmarket Racecourses. The health and fitness of our participants is paramount and partnering with the UK’s leading Nutrition Provider for Athletes means that our jockeys have access to the absolute best nutrition to fuel their performance.

“We have chosen to move away from champagne as prizes, wanting to offer something which can be used by every jockey that wins a prize. We are conscious of the moving nature of society’s relationship with alcohol, and fitness and wellbeing, and want to make sure our prizes are in line with what is appropriate.”

Dr Dan Martin, Head of Industry Nutrition Services, added, “One of the biggest challenges jockeys face day-to-day is access to excellent quality food whilst on the road day after day that both fuels them whilst helps maintain their riding weight. Newmarket Racecourse providing Fuel Hub meals as part of the prize giving is an excellent initiative that I fully support.

“It’s a progressive move that supports modern day jockey athletes and is a prize that jockey can use to support their career rather than the traditional bottle of champagne which the jockeys often give away.”

Newmarket Racecourses’ season begins on Tuesday 16th April, with the Craven Meeting, featuring trials for the key Classic races throughout the QIPCO Guineas Festival, Friday 3rd May to Sunday 5th May.
