Reading the form

Form is the record of a horse’s performance in previous races and is seen by many as a good way of predicting a horse’s future performance. 

What is a racecard?

The racecard is the equivalent of a theatre programme; it is a guide to enjoying your day and contains all the information you need about the racecourse and races to be run that day.

Betting with the Tote

Betting at the races can take many different forms. One of the most popular ways to bet is with the Tote. 

Get Past the Jargon

Don’t let betting jargon put you off. For example, you may hear phrases such as ‘price’, ‘fixed-odds’, ‘SP’, ‘odds-on’ or ‘on the nose’. These are easily explained.

Picking a winner by eye

One of the ways you can select a horse to carry your hopes when placing a bet is by watching the runners in the Parade Ring before they head out onto the course.
