NOTTINGHAM NEWS: OUR 2024 SEASON SO FAR!

Press Release 22nd August 2024 Nottingham

By Nottingham Racecourse

The quality of horse is as high as ever at Nottingham though so far star names have had to contend with some extraordinary wet weather for the headlines.

At Colwick Park we are proud of our record of winning two year olds that go on to achieve big things in the future, and two of our 2024 winners have already been successful when promoted to Group class.

On 5th June a flying filly named Leovanni made a winning debut at Nottingham and just a fortnight later beat a huge field to land the prestigious Group 2, the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

And James Doyle, the leading rider of the season at Nottingham so far this season was also on board when Godolphin’s Aomori City made a winning debut- and in July she took the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Glorius Goodwood.

Local trainer Mick Appleby has been running away with our top trainer championship having already amassed 8 winners with a variety of horses and over different distances while Champion jockey William Buick and the current title leader Oisin Murphy have both been welcome visitors to the Nottingham winners enclosure this summer.

Mention too of one trainer who had a winner at both our August meetings- Sir Mark Prescott saddled Almudena to win our featured handicap, the Weatherby’s Colwick Cup and then saw stablemate Overture run away with a race at our most recent fixture.

Racing returns to Nottingham this Autumn with the Grassroots finals on 2 October.

General Admission tickets are on sale now, with limited spaces in Hospitality remaining.
