Newmarket during the war years
As we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day on 8th May, we're taking a look back...
During the war years most sporting programmes were halted however racing in Newmarket continued and maintained much of its own racing calendar.
In 1939 the Rowley Mile became an official RAF Bomber Command Airbase.
Racing continued over on the July Course which also staged the Derby which was moved from its traditional venue at Epsom Downs and was run at Newmarket between 1915-18 and 1940-45.
