William Buick, the UK’s champion Flat jockey in 2022 and 2023, is today announced as an Ambassador for The Jockey Club’s East Region.

Based primarily in Newmarket in his role as retained rider to Godolphin, the 36-year-old has enjoyed Classic success on five occasions including in the Betfred Derby at Epsom Downs aboard Masar (2018) and in the Betfred 2000 Guineas at Newmarket courtesy of Notable Speech (2024).

He has also won Sandown Park’s feature Group One Coral-Eclipse on three occasions via Nathaniel (2012), Hawkbill (2016) and Ghaiyyath (2020) and last season won Newmarket’s summer highlight, the Group One July Cup, for the first time with Mill Stream.

William Buick said: “I am honoured to be the inaugural ambassador for The Jockey Club’s East Region.

“The ‘East’ tracks host some of the finest British racing, from the world-famous Betfred Derby to top-class events at Newmarket, Kempton Park and Sandown Park - tracks where I’ve been fortunate to achieve success.

“I look forward to collaborating with The Jockey Club and supporting the team in promoting these prestigious events.”

Sophie Able, Newmarket Racecourses and International Director, commented: “We’re delighted to have William on board for the season. He finished off 2024 with a flourish, winning multiple juvenile Group Ones here at Newmarket, which sets him up for some exciting horses for the 2025 Flat season, especially across the Betfred Guineas Festival.”

Jim Allen, General Manager at Epsom Downs, added: “As a Betfred Derby-winning jockey, it’s great to have William join The Jockey Club team. We are looking forward to him joining us for a variety of events, helping to showcase how our racecourses work alongside the local community. He is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of our sport and a great ambassador for Flat racing.”

The six racecourses which stage Flat racing in The Jockey Club’s East Region are Epsom Downs, Newmarket (July Course), Newmarket (Rowley Mile), Nottingham, Kempton Park and Sandown Park.
