A brief history of Moët & Chandon and Horseracing

In 1908, Alfred Simon, Moët & Chandon's British agent, won two races at Epsom on his horses "Moët" and "Chandon". To celebrate his victories, he bought champagne for the whole racecourse. With humour, his successors note that, thankfully for his agency's bank account, his winning streak ended there. Thanks to him, horse lovers love champagne. Moët & Chandon is still present at the Epsom Derby where it sponsors the "Silver Magnum" race.

  • Alfred Simon was an original member of Epsom, Sandown, Kempton, Newbury and Goodwood, also a member of the Iron Stand at Ascot. In 1835 he then became Moët & Chandon’s 1st agency and sole agent for England.
  • 1815: the year when Champagne became the great racecourse drink.
  • The papers, radio, and television covered many festivities with champions drinking Moët & Chandon. Thanks to them, Brut Impérial came to symbolise strength, success, as well as the conviviality, passion, integrity and elegance that all athletes represent.
