Clan des Obeaux heads the market at 3-1 with the sponsor as 25 horses remain in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day following today’s scratchings deadline.
Owned by former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in partnership with Ged Mason and Paul Barber, the Paul Nicholls-trained Clan des Obeaux landed the Grade One highlight in 2018 and 2019 before finishing third to stablemate Frodon in 2020. The 12-times champion Jump trainer Nicholls has also left in Saint Calvados as he chases a record-extending 13th victory in the three-mile feature.
There are 11 Irish-trained entries remaining including the latest two winners of the Cheltenham Gold Cup – 2021 scorer Minella Indo and Al Boum Photo, who won chasing’s Blue Riband in 2019 and 2020. Al Boum Photo is one of seven remaining entries for Ireland’s champion Jump trainer Willie Mullins, who saddled Florida Pearl to victory in the 2002 renewal of the King George VI Chase.
