ABOUT HUNTINGDON RACECOURSE
Huntingdon, which benefits from being a part of The Jockey Club, the largest commercial group in the sport of horse racing, is one of the friendliest racecourses in Britain.
The Cambridgeshire venue is regularly chosen as ‘Best Small Racecourse’ in the South Midlands and East Anglia and is much loved by followers of jump racing.
‘Location, location, location’ is a strong point, set conveniently near the convergence of the A1 and A14 and only a short distance from the ‘Home of Racing’ at Newmarket. The racecourse, excellently signposted, cannot be easier to find and reach.
There are racing fixtures on 19 days of the year, with the highlight being the prestigious Peterborough Chase, run a fortnight before Christmas, a contest with history and heritage having attracted some of the greats like Desert Orchid, One Man, Edredon Bleu and Best Mate over the years.
Spectators find excellent facilities, from refreshments to viewing. The Peterborough Chase Restaurant is much sought after for fine dining, while on the biggest racing days visitors can enjoy their own picnics in the Picnic Enclosure.
Free children’s entertainment is laid on during Bank Holiday meetings – and, of course, accompanied under 18s are always admitted free of charge.
Young adults, aged 18 to 24, can register for discounted admission, as can senior citizens. It’s all part of Huntingdon Racecourse playing a leading role, as part of The Jockey Club, in making racing the second most popular spectator sport in the country.
Race-goers can watch the horses in the Parade Ring before they go out on to the track for the races. The viewing across the one-mile three-furlong circuit is excellent – and then the crowds cheer as the victorious horses and jockeys return to the Winners Enclosure and the prize-giving.
The standard of the racetrack is renowned among racehorse owners and trainers. In 2016, the groundstaff team was chosen as the best in Britain on account of their terrific commitment and work, while the venue as a whole has received ‘Excellence Accolades’ from England’s tourism body, VisitEngland.
Huntingdon, however, is not just a racecourse. It offers conference and events facilities all year round when the horses aren’t racing. The facilities also make for a splendid wedding venue. Shows, exhibitions and car boot sales, taking advantage of the convenient location, are hosted as well.
There is simply something for everyone at Huntingdon Racecourse!
