2020 INTRO

2020 was the 241st annual Derby race, taking place behind closed doors at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Saturday 4th July.

The 2020 Derby started at 4.55pm with Good ground. Serpentine ridden by Emmet McNamara won the race and trainer Aidan O'Brien become the most successful Derby-winning trainer of all time.

Interesting facts about the Derby at Epsom:

 

  • The Derby is a Group 1 race for 3-year-old colts and fillies run over a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs.

  • The first Derby took place in 1780 and is named after the 12th Earl of Derby following the toss of a coin between the Earl of Derby and Sir Charles Bunbury.

  • The first ever Derby was won by Diomed, a colt owned by Sir Charles Bunbury.
