Festival Wednesday, setting for the toughest speed test. Fierce speed meets composed agility on a day where extraordinary racing is always promised. Spirits were high as the worlds of fashion and racing glitterati came together for unmissable action on and off the track. Welcome to day two at The Cheltenham Festival.
MASTER MULLINS
Cheltenham creates only iconic moments. Legends are born here. Every horse, jockey, trainer, breeder, owner, and fan worth their weight in gold is here. And as far as Cheltenham icons go, Willie Mullins tops the bill. Festival Wednesday began as Champion day ended for the competition’s most successful trainer with Impaire Et Pass leading a 1-2-3 to take gold in the Grade One Ballymore Novices’ hurdle. Total Festival wins for Mullins - 92 and counting.
SPEED DEMON
A true test of speed. The Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase. It’s not for the faint hearted, this is unrelenting prestige, competition, and excitement. And it was Energumene who was crowned champion chaser once again to bring Willie Mullins back-to-back wins. Now just 8 wins away from a century of Festival wins, Mullins racing legacy is fast becoming one of the greatest ever.
REAL WHACKER THE REAL DEAL
Breathless, immense, remarkable. The Real Whacker continued his extraordinary rise through the ranks with a valiant performance in the Grade One Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. Unbeaten in his two previous starts over fences at the home of jump racing, the seven-year-old drifted to 8-1 before the off, but a spectacular display of jumping saw him prevail in a photo finish by a short head.
For celebrations like no other and racing to match, St Patrick's Day at Cheltenham is the place to be. Horses and jockeys put on a special show in front of star-studded crowd firing up the greatest racing atmosphere on Earth.
