The Jockey Club

We are excited to announce the launch of The Jockey Club Apprenticeship Scheme, a significant development in our ongoing commitment to developing talent and fostering growth within the racing industry. This initiative will provide opportunities for aspiring professionals to gain hands-on experience, develop practical skills, and earn while they learn.

About the Apprenticeship Scheme

The apprenticeships in this scheme will complement those already on offer and will offer a balanced approach between on-the-job training and structured learning through:

Workplace Experience:

Apprentices will be placed in departments where they will gain practical, hands-on experience relevant to their career goals.

Training Courses:

Apprentices will be provided with role-specific training.

Buddy Scheme:

Each apprentice will be paired with a ‘buddy’ in their team, providing valuable day-to-day support and guidance, helping them settle into the workplace and build a strong foundation for success.

“We recognise the importance of nurturing talent”

The Jockey Club Apprenticeship Scheme is a clear reflection of our dedication to creating opportunities for young people from communities across the country.

We recognise the importance of nurturing talent at a local level and the long-term benefits this can bring both to the next generation of talent and the sport of horseracing.

This program will help to empower the young people by providing them with the skills and experience needed to build successful careers and forms part of our commitment to provide 100,000 opportunities for young people to experience the thrill of racing between now and 2034.

Offer Accessible Career Pathways:

By providing an alternative to traditional education routes, our scheme enables young people from all backgrounds to gain valuable work experience while earning a qualification, opening the door to long-term career opportunities.

Support Our Racecourse Communities:

We are proud to offer apprenticeships in multiple locations, ensuring that young people in the communities around our racecourses have access to the scheme. This initiative helps bridge the skills gap and contributes to the local economies where we operate.

Invest in Future Talent:

By actively recruiting young people, we are developing a new generation of skilled professionals in the racing industry, ensuring that they have the tools and mentorship to succeed. This reflects our belief in the potential of every young person, regardless of their background, and our commitment to providing them with the chance to thrive.

Our apprenticeship scheme embodies our long-term commitment to empower young people across the country, helping them to realise their full potential and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities. It is our aim for this to just be the start.

“My apprenticeship in People and Culture at The Jockey Club has been an amazing experience, filled with growth and learning. With the guidance and support of my team, I’ve had countless learning opportunities to enhance my HR skills and gain real-life work experience. I’m proud to work for an organisation that truly values its people, and I’m excited to continue building a strong foundation for my future career.”
