AINTREE

The Golf Course

At 3,287 yards from the white tees, Aintree golf centre is one of the longest 9 hole courses in the UK – giving you a small taste of the challenging distance that Grand National horses experience every year in the world’s greatest steeplechase in this very setting.

As well as the golf course sitting in the centre of the racetrack, amongst the testing features are the opportunity to play over the world famous Becher’s Brook and a replica Grand National fence.

You’ll not need to worry if it’s too wet to play as Aintree’s course is one of the best draining courses in the local area, with very few closures due to wet weather conditions. We pride ourselves on the fact that the course is played with full tees and greens all year round. With our staff’s experience in turf husbandry, we have the ideal foundations for providing a good quality golf course for people to play. Plus, with the course being 9 holes, it is ideally suited to beginners, yet it can also be a good test for the experienced golfer due to the length of the holes.

Golfers are able to choose whether or not they play just the 9 holes or they play the 9 hole course twice to make 18 holes.

At Aintree we try and ensure that our customers more often than not are able to play on full tees and greens. Non-members can only book a maximum of 5 days in advance (this includes the day of play). Please call 0151 523 5157 if you would like to book a tee time or require further information.

We have a relaxed Dress Code at Aintree, whilst it is preferred that golfers wear golfing attire, it is not essential. Shirts must have collars and sleeves (mock necks are acceptable), if a golfer wishes to wear shorts, then they must also wear socks.

Parking is available onsite free of charge. Please access the Golf Centre via Melling Road rather than the main racecourse entrance on Grand National Avenue.

There is no bag or club sharing allowed on the golf course, and we also do not allow any caddies or non-players to walk around the course.

Construction began on Aintree Golf Centre and Driving Range in 1993, with the 30 Bay Floodlit Driving Range opening in April 1994, and the 9-hole golf course opening in October 1994.  The golf course was designed by Warrington based PGA Professional, Michael Slater.  Since then, a strong community of dedicated golfers take to the course at Aintree every week to tee off in the famous setting where Grand National champions make their name, close to the very track where Grand Prix racing was staged.

As well as the Driving Range and the Golf Course, the Grand National Golf Club also operates from Aintree Golf Centre. The Golf Club is a fully affiliated member of England Golf (which was granted in March 1995) offering golfers recognised handicap status. There is also a junior section of the Grand National Golf Club for juniors up to the age of 17. At Aintree we actively encourage Junior Golf, with the support of the Golf Foundation, our resident Professional Scot Duffy regularly visits local primary schools and also teaches schools and community groups on the Driving Range.

Over the past couple of years, Aintree Golf Centre has been working very hard with the local schools and community groups in encouraging juniors into golf. We are registered with the Golf Foundation as a Community Links Centre, which involves working closely with local primary and secondary schools. Our professional, Scot Duffy regularly visits the local primary schools and gives instruction to the children using the Tri-Golf equipment. We then try to encourage children who are interested in golf to visit the Driving Range and develop their golf.
