Appointment of the CEO

 

The Jockey Club is looking to appoint a new CEO to lead The Club in the next exciting phase of its journey. The new CEO will be tasked with transforming and growing the business to unleash its full potential, inspiring and motivating its c. 700 strong team to deliver a brilliant proposition to all customers and members.

Guided by the Board of Stewards, the organisation has identified the following as key strategic priorities for the incoming CEO:
1. Returning the core racing business to profitable growth
2. Realising the full potential from the group's substantial property portfolio
3. Working collaboratively with industry stakeholders to build sustainable national and international media and betting revenues
4. Innovating for the future
5. Developing a long-term strategy and capital structure
6. Continuing to develop and improve the governance and stakeholder structure of the sport.

The new CEO will be a spokesperson for the industry, confidently communicating across a wide range of stakeholders and will deliver a brilliant proposition to all customers and members, with accountability for: designing and implementing a new commercial strategy; driving operational efficiency to maximise profitability from the current estate; and working for the long-term good of racing.

Candidates for the new CEO will be experienced CEOs or divisional leaders of significant consumer-facing (ideally multi-site) sports, leisure, retail or entertainment businesses, with a track record of delivering substantial change and performance improvement. They will have had considerable experience operating and leading in a complex stakeholder environment. Key to the role will be understanding the dynamics of a complex business and sport, its history, and its culture.

Candidates will need to demonstrate leadership competencies at a high level, including driving change and transformation; delivering results and high performance; driving commercial outcomes; shaping strategy; influencing collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholders; and leading teams within the organisation. Equally important will be high integrity, a low ego, a tolerance for ambiguity, and a willingness to travel and attend races in the service of The Club.
